About JR LocalLab
We are the JR LocalLab team. We build high-performance, completely private media manipulation utilities that execute 100% inside your browser using client-side WebAssembly, WebCodecs, and Web Workers.
Why We Built JR LocalLab
For years, performing basic digital media tasks—such as extracting an audio track from a home video, removing the background from a portrait, converting an image to vector paths, or merging PDF documents—forced users to upload their personal files to commercial cloud servers. Many of these remote services impose arbitrary queue delays, aggressive file size caps, aggressive watermarks, or covert data mining practices.
With the rapid maturation of standardized browser capabilities (such as WebAssembly, OffscreenCanvas, and the WebCodecs API), personal computers, laptops, and smartphones have more than enough processing power to perform complex media conversions locally. JR LocalLab was engineered to prove that modern web applications can deliver desktop-grade file processing speed without compromising user anonymity or file security.
Engineering Principles
- Zero-Upload Processing: All file byte manipulation happens directly in browser RAM. Our code contains zero endpoints or backend server dependencies capable of receiving user media.
- Memory-Only Retention: We never write file contents to
localStorage,IndexedDB, or cookies. When you finish your task and close the tab or press "Clear", memory is immediately returned to your operating system. - Transparent Verification: Users can inspect the browser Network tab at any moment during processing to verify that zero file payloads leave their device.
- Open Source & Permissive Standards: We prioritize lean, auditable open-source components and hand-written encoders over opaque third-party software stacks.
The Team
We are a group of privacy-focused systems and front-end software engineers dedicated to decentralized, client-side web computing. We design tools that prioritize user sovereignty, privacy by architecture, and instant utility.
